VARANASI: The tourists visiting the ancient temple town from the second fortnight of December could enjoy the majestic Ganga riverfront, scenic landscapes of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and panoramic view of the Buddhist circuit, including Sarnath from the air as the UP Tourism is offering an aerial tour of the city.

After two years when the proposal was first mooted, the idea of developing helicopter tourism seems to be finally taking off. A meeting was held in this connection by DM Yogeshwar Ram Mishra on Wednesday evening. The administration had joined hands with Pawan Hans for heli-tourism, keeping in mind the massive influx of tourists. Regional tourist officer Ravindra Mishra told TOI that a chopper service to provide an aerial view of Ganga ghats, Sarnath and prominent locations in BHU is expected to start in the second half of this month.

These joy rides are aimed to attract tourists, who have limited time at hand but wish to explore the main attractions in the city in short time. The heli-tours will initially begin in city but will be subsequently extended to other places in Buddhist circuit like Kaushambi, Kushinagar, Kapilvastu and Shravasti, he said.
